Graphite on wooden panels, sound equipment in wooden structures.

The exhibition that took place in “The White Cube”- a public art installation at the Opera house in Umeå- consisted of drawings on wooden panels and a sound installation consisting of geometrical shapes that each conceal a speaker.

The two drawings in the mini exhibition are both translations of sound into visual image. One drawing is built up by a constructed coded language, creating a graphical surface of words. The other drawing is a representation of the sounds in the sound installation which consists of 5 voices singing 5 different tones, in a very basic simple rhythm. The occurrence of each not is represented in the drawing showing each town.

In the sound installation Aria, five voices are singing a simple rhythmic melody. The sound of the voices comes out of polyhedral shapes hanging from the ceiling with built-in speakers. The melody is created around and based on the geometric shape that makes up the speaker. The triangle, which forms the basis of the shape, also becomes the basis of the rhythm. A correlation is created between the shape and the sound. The voices in the sound installation are not carriers of messages. They sing without words. They are meant to be just voices and just be what a voice is- air that gives a sound and a timbre through the oscillations of the vocal cords and the surrounding architecture of the body. Although the voices lack a spoken message, they can be full of information.
